Track Day at Laguna Seca

Updated: Feb 18

Hi hi Fast World Friends. Taylor here again with a quick little update ahead of the long weekend.

So fun news today - I’m actually tapping this out on my phone in the warmth of our Mazda at the gorgeous and world-renowned Laguna Seca race track.

That’s twice in three weeks! Almost as frequent as our urgent care visits during flu season!

We brought the whole family out here a few weeks ago for an open track event. [Open track is where all the drivers get to cosplay Cars all day but there’s not like a winner or anything like that because we’re all winners when the car actually makes it to and drives down the track.] The BMW wasn’t ready to go, but the kids had a great time and for me, a slightly less nervous version of a highly overprotective mom, it was the perfect segue back to track life.

Slight detour here but when Jaysin had to move for work a few years ago, family track days became few and far between. It’s been a couple years since I lovingly dragged all the kids to an event, but it was finally time to dust off the TrackMom folder in my brain and reprogram it a bit as we ease into a new season of having track-ready cars and slightly older kids.

Back to the here and now - cozy in my heated seat tapping away on Wix to bring you v important updates. It’s our second open track day and the kids are at school…a happy combo for TrackMom because TrackWife gets to come out and play for a few.

Something broke/leaked/misfired before I got here, which meant that as soon as I arrived, we turned around to grab some parts and things that I cannot name from home. BUT J is fixing it and should hit the track any minute now.

[Right, babe? Because I’m running out of TrackWife time and have to switch to Bodybuilder for a few minutes before transitioning to Mom-mode for kids’ Valentine’s parties…]

Okay I’ll ramble on a bit since he’s still working on this fix.

I’m still incredibly impressed by what J has achieved on this build. The car was a complete mess and mystery (since he who shall not be inducted into the Good Dudes Driving Club wasn’t transparent about the work he did) but my guy managed to gut and rebuild from the ground up. Like..you’ve seen a car with an empty engine bay before, right? (Omg who am I talking like I know things) And then he just…built it back together AND THEN he drove me to the gym this week AND it was fun and warm (I must be warm to have a good time y’all) AND NOW he’s at LAGUNA SECA RACEWAY with it?! Like who is he?

Guys. He did it. He fixed the thingy. Then…He ran some laps in that ridiculous build and his smile was insanely adorable after, even all smushed up in his helmet. Seriously how cute is this adult male?!

I have to run home since daycare closes early today and we have two Valentine’s parties at the elementary school to get to but I know there will be more to come as he wraps up the day out here.
